How to Interpret Your Recommendation

Upgrade your current PC when one or two replaceable parts are causing the problem, the rest of the system is reliable, and the improvement costs substantially less than a suitable new computer. Buy a new PC when the processor platform, motherboard, memory, storage, and graphics would all need attention, or when the existing design prevents meaningful upgrades.

Age alone does not settle the decision. A five-year-old custom desktop with standard parts may be an excellent upgrade candidate, while a newer laptop with soldered memory and a failing motherboard may be poor value to repair.
