What PC Reporter checks
- Hardware and memory
- Identify your CPU, GPU, motherboard, and RAM. Check memory speed, timings, and channel configuration.
- Temperatures and fans
- Watch available sensor readings and signs of thermal throttling. Sensor access depends on the hardware and permissions.
- Drive health and disk space
- Review available SMART health data and SSD wear indicators. Use the drive map to find folders taking up space.
- Drivers and power settings
- Find unsigned drivers or device errors and review the active power plan. An older driver date alone is not treated as a fault.
- Slowdowns during use
- Record a Diagnostic Session to connect sustained heat or heavy load with the processes running at the time.
- Upgrade clues
- Review likely bottlenecks and recommendations based on the readings your PC provides.
Create and share a PC report
- Open the app. Let the hardware readings load. Use Restart as administrator if the app offers it and you need access to more sensors or drive health data.
- Review the results. Check the Overview and Recommendations tabs. A completed Diagnostic Session is included in the report automatically.
- Select Export. Choose Save as HTML Report for a report that opens in a browser, or Save as PDF Report for a document you can print or attach to a support request.
Review the exported file before sharing it. Keep a copy before repairs or upgrades so you can compare the results afterward.
Crash investigation and privacy
Crash Trace combines Windows incident records with an optional rolling history of up to 30 minutes while the app is open. It builds a timeline with possible causes, supporting evidence, confidence labels, and next steps. Use Export incident to save a ZIP containing an HTML timeline and JSON evidence.
The history stays on your PC, and recording is off until you enable it. Crash Trace excludes browser history, credentials, window titles, hardware serial numbers, file listings, command lines, and memory dump contents. Names found in Windows messages are replaced before storage.
What the evidence can tell you
Crash Trace can use Windows Reliability records, application faults, and WHEA hardware events to help explain an incident.
Microsoft notes that Kernel-Power event 41 confirms an unclean shutdown but may not reveal its cause. A Windows bugcheck code may provide more detail; finding the faulty component can still require further analysis.
PC Reporter records a nearby dump filename without reading or including the dump. Earlier sensor readings are available only if recording was enabled before the incident.
