RAM Configuration Optimizer for Windows

Most RAM cleaners just force Windows to dump its memory, and Windows loads it all straight back.

RAM Optimizer finds what's really eating your memory instead: the app hogging it, startup apps you never use, and sticks running slower than they should. Then a tiny meter by your clock keeps watch, using under 5 MB.

The Store version installs in one click and can update itself. The EXE needs no installer, so just open it and choose to keep RAM Optimizer in the tray. You can remove either one later in Settings, under Apps.

It runs on Windows, so send yourself the link and open it on your PC.

  • Free to use, no ads

What RAM Optimizer Checks

  • Which apps hold your memory

Each app's memory is added up across all its processes, the same figure Task Manager shows. Close the biggest ones first.

  • Startup apps that hog memory

See what each startup app holds and turn it off in one click. It uses the same switch as Task Manager, so you can turn it back on any time.

  • Sticks in the right slots

One stick, or two sticks sharing a channel, gives you half the memory bandwidth. RAM Optimizer reads your slot names and tells you.

  • Your kit's full speed

Kits from Corsair, G.Skill, Kingston, Crucial, TeamGroup and ADATA are checked against the speed in their part number. If XMP or EXPO is off, you'll know.

  • Mixed sticks

Sticks from different kits may run below their rated speed or cause crashes, so they're flagged too.

  • Memory limit and page file

Get a warning when apps have nearly used up the memory Windows allows, or when the page file is switched off.

A Memory Meter in Your Tray

The tray icon is a small memory chip that fills up as your memory does. It turns amber at 75% and red at 90%, so trouble is easy to spot.

Click it to see memory in use and the five apps using the most. It's a small native app, so it uses under 5 MB of memory while it runs all day.

  • Start with Windows. Switch it on and the tray is there each time you sign in.
  • Your choice of features. Every feature has its own switch, in the tray's settings or the full report.
  • Easy to remove. The tray shows up in Settings under Apps, so you can uninstall it like any other app.

Why It Won't Empty Your Memory

Windows fills spare memory with files you used recently, so they open fast. Microsoft counts that cache as available memory, because Windows hands it to any app that needs it.

RAM cleaners throw that cache away to show a bigger free number. Windows then reads the same files from your drive again, which is slower than memory.

So RAM Optimizer goes after memory that's really taken: apps you can close, startup apps you can switch off, and apps that keep growing.

Turn On XMP or EXPO

Most fast kits run at a slower base speed until you switch on their profile in the BIOS. Intel calls it XMP, and AMD calls it EXPO.

  1. Restart and open the BIOS. Press the key shown as the PC starts, often Delete or F2.
  2. Find the memory profile. Look for XMP, EXPO or DOCP in the overclocking or memory settings. Corsair shows where it sits in its BIOS memory guide.
  3. Pick the first profile, then save and exit. Open RAM Optimizer again. Memory sticks should now show your kit's rated speed.

These profiles are an overclock, so not every board holds them. If the PC won't start or keeps crashing, turn the profile off again.

Pro Optional add-on

What Computer Info Bits Pro Adds

Everything above stays free. Pro gives the tray four jobs, each with its own switch, and keeps a week of memory history.

  • Memory alerts

When memory stays nearly full, a card names the app hogging it, with a button to close it. The app can still ask you to save your work.

  • Leak alerts

Spots apps whose memory climbs for hours, and offers to restart them to get that memory back.

  • Startup guard

Some apps switch themselves back on at startup after an update. The guard turns the ones you switched off back off.

  • Protect the app in front

Past 85%, big idle background apps get a lower memory priority, so Windows trims their memory first. Nothing is closed.

How to Get Started

  1. Download the EXE and open it. Keep it somewhere handy, such as Documents, so the tray can open the full report.
  2. Choose Keep it in the tray, and turn on Start with Windows. Anything worth fixing shows at the top of the report, with a button that takes you straight to it.
  3. Turn off startup apps you don't need, then restart. They keep running until Windows restarts. After that, their memory stays free.

When You Need More Memory

If memory is often near full even after closing apps, more of it may be the real fix. The RAM calculator works out how much you need, which kit to buy, and which slots to fill.

Windows SmartScreen prompt for the EXE

Microsoft Defender SmartScreen warns about new apps that aren't downloaded often yet. If you got RAM Optimizer from this page, select More info, then Run anyway. The Microsoft Store version doesn't show this prompt.

Verify the EXE with its SHA-256 checksum

The EXE is 71.1 MB. Open PowerShell in your Downloads folder and run Get-FileHash on the file. The hash it prints should match this one exactly.

How to uninstall RAM Optimizer

Open Settings, then Apps, then Installed apps. Find CIB RAM Optimizer and choose Uninstall. That removes the tray, its settings and its history.

The report itself is the EXE you downloaded, so delete that file too.

What's in version 1.1.1

Version 1.1.1 brings this download in line with the Microsoft Store version. It works the same as 1.1.0.

Version 1.1.0 added a new tray meter that uses under 5 MB, with a Start with Windows switch and an entry in Settings for uninstalling. The full report is now one lighter page that follows Windows' light or dark mode.

Pro now runs from the tray, with a close button in memory alerts, a restart button in leak alerts, a startup guard, and protection for the app in front. Each job has its own switch.
